Anuj Traders

About Us · Ahmedabad · Since 1922

Everything that runs hot needs a line that holds.

For a hundred years, one family in Ahmedabad has supplied it. The company began in 1922 trading building materials; in 1964 it moved into refractories — the materials that stand between industrial fire and everything around it. Three generations later, that is still the business.

Chapter 01 / 06

1922

A trading house opens in Ahmedabad

Trikamlal J. Desai founds the company in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and starts importing cement from Japan by container ship — an unusual ambition for a Gujarat trading house at the time.

Chapter 02 / 06

1936

First authorised ACC Cement dealer

Anuj Traders becomes an inaugural authorised dealer for ACC Cement — the appointment that turned a trading house into a distributor.

Chapter 03 / 06

1964

Into the fire: refractories

Under Jitendra T. Desai the company enters the refractory sector — the supply business it is known for today, and the origin of the “since 1964” refractory chronology.

Chapter 04 / 06

2005

The ACE transition

ACC Refractories moves to ICICI Ventures and is rebranded ACE. Anuj Traders navigates the handover and widens its portfolio rather than narrowing it.

Chapter 05 / 06

2008

Calderys, and a wider map

Calderys (Imerys Group) acquires ACE, Plibrico and Lafarge’s refractory divisions. The integration connects Anuj Traders to global refractory technology and to export markets.

Today

Third generation, same address

The third generation of the Desai family leads the company across refractory and construction-materials supply — a century of trading heritage, still run out of Ahmedabad.

The family

One house, three generations, one city

First generation

Trikamlal J. Desai

From 1922

Opened the house in Ahmedabad and brought cement in from Japan by container ship, when almost nobody in the city was importing it.

Second generation

Jitendra T. Desai

From 1964

Took the business into refractories. Sixty years on, that is still the decision the company runs on.

Third generation

The Desai family today

Present

Leads refractory and construction-materials supply for Indian industry and export markets, from the same city it started in.

Plates are illustrative reconstructions of each era’s work, not portraits — no photographs of the first two generations are held in the archive.
