Proactive Refractory Maintenance
Planned refractory maintenance — inspection, patching and staged replacement timed to your shutdowns, so the lining is replaced on your schedule rather than on its own.
Inspection that produces a decision
A useful inspection records where the lining has gone and, just as importantly, where it has not. Wear that is uniform points at the process; wear that is local points at geometry, flame, flow or installation. Thickness readings taken at the same points each shutdown turn into a wear rate, and a wear rate turns into a date — which is the whole point, because a date is something you can plan a shutdown around.
Patch, or replace
Patching buys time and is the right answer when the surrounding lining has campaign left in it. It is the wrong answer when the wear is chemical and general, when the patch material is a lower grade than what is around it, or when the same spot has already been patched twice — at that point the patch is hiding a mechanism rather than fixing one. We will tell you which of those you are looking at.
What planned maintenance actually saves
Not material cost — material is rarely the expensive part. It saves the unplanned outage, and it saves the compressed dryout that follows one. A lining replaced during a scheduled shutdown gets the heat-up curve it needs; a lining replaced in an emergency usually does not, and pays for that in the following campaign.

Where this is the wrong answer
Maintenance will not rescue a lining that keeps failing for a root cause outside the refractory — kiln ovality, anchor design, flame impingement, or an uncontrolled chlorine or alkali cycle. In those cases patching on a cycle is just paying for the problem in instalments.
