What the method decides
The same castable placed three different ways gives three different linings. A well-vibrated cast lining reaches meaningfully higher bulk density than the same material gunned, and that density difference shows up directly as slag resistance and campaign life. Gunning buys speed and access at a cost in density; shotcreting recovers much of it; ramming suits complex geometry where formwork is impractical; precast shapes move the work off the critical path entirely. The method is part of the specification, not a detail left to site.
Anchors, joints and the things that actually fail
A large share of linings blamed on the material turn out to be design and installation failures — anchor grade, spacing and orientation, and expansion joints either mis-placed or omitted. Anchor spacing in everyday practice is often set by rule of thumb rather than by the anchor's and the lining's strength at temperature. We would rather argue about this before the lining goes in than diagnose it afterwards.
The dryout is part of the job
Every hydraulically bonded castable is placed with water that has to leave under control. Low-cement grades carry far less water than conventional ones but are much less permeable, so their heat-up is stricter, not more forgiving — this is the single most common way a correct specification underperforms. We hand over the schedule with the lining, and we would rather you delay first heat than compress it.
What to send us
- Drawings or dimensions of the vessel and the zones being lined
- The shutdown window, and whether it is firm
- Access — hatch sizes, scaffolding, what can be reached and how
- Existing anchor arrangement and shell condition, including any known ovality
Where this is the wrong answer
We will not quote an installation against a heat-up curve that cannot be held. If the window is too short for a proper dryout, the honest options are a different material, a precast approach, or a longer window — not a faster ramp.
