Tailored Refractory Solutions

Material selection and supply matched to the operating conditions you actually run, rather than to the temperature on the nameplate.

The nameplate is not the duty

The two questions that decide most linings are what touches the hot face and how often the temperature swings — not the peak temperature. A brick rated to 1700 °C is dissolved at 1200 °C by molten mill scale. A dense, very strong, very stiff material is often the wrong answer in a furnace that cycles hard, because thermal shock resistance improves with lower elastic modulus, not higher strength. Specifying against the nameplate is how plants end up buying a more expensive material that fails the same way.

Most linings are a system

Hot face, backup, insulation and the anchoring that holds them are one decision. Raising insulation performance pushes the hot face hotter; a hot face chosen without the backup in mind moves the problem rather than solving it. Where the answer is a combination — say a dense low-cement hot face over an insulating castable over calcium silicate — we quote it as a system, with the interfaces specified.

Where the answer is not a material

Sometimes the right recommendation is a geometry change, an anchor redesign, an expansion joint that was never there, or a change upstream in the volatile cycle. We will say so. It costs us a sale and saves you a campaign, and it is the reason the recommendation is worth reading.

What to send us

  • A cross-section of the failed material, full thickness, hot face marked — the single most useful item
  • Vessel, zone and a sketch or photo of the wear pattern
  • Operating temperature, the swing per cycle, and cycles per week
  • Atmosphere and slag, melt or dust chemistry, with an analysis if you have one

Where this is the wrong answer

This is not a substitute for the manufacturer's technical data sheet, and we do not certify performance. What we give you is a mechanism, a material system and a plain statement of our confidence in it.
